A coat or two of paint is a relatively affordable and quick way to change your home’s interior. With so many colors and styles, how do you choose your paint colors? At TriStar Renovations & Boat Docks, we have interior painting experts who can help.
Here are a few tips for selecting colors for your interior painting job:
- Consider Each Room’s Use. Do you want to create a cozy office or media room? A darker shade will bring the walls in and create a comfortable feel. A calming space, such as a bedroom, could be more relaxing with shades of green, blue, or purple paint.
- What Kinds of Light a Does Your Room Get? Our interior painting experts know that lighting will change the perceived color of any paint color. For example, a north-facing room gets a cool, bluish natural light, and any beige or muted color will look grayer and more muted. Southern natural light amplifies and warms colors. In rooms with no natural light, the type of light bulb you use there will influence the look of the paint color.
- Go with Top Trends. For the past several years, neutrals such as beige and gray have been the hot colors. But people now are experimenting with darker colors such as emerald green or navy blue. Don’t worry about trends changing quickly; they tend to last at least a few years.
- Color Theory Works. The color wheel can help you figure out a color scheme for just one room or your whole home. A complementary color scheme, for example, pairs colors that are directly opposite of each other on the color wheel. This results in a high-contrast look, such as blue with orange. For a calmer feel, use analogous colors — ones that are next to each other on the color wheel such as blue and green.
